Phuket City Development (PKCD) teams up with the Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation to launch the Smart Bus EV route, providing free and eco-friendly service. PKCD and the Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation have agreed to collaborate in driving the development of an environmentally friendly city (Green City) to create a living and tourism-friendly environment. They introduce a fleet of 22-seat Smart Bus EVs to offer free transportation, reducing traffic congestion and air pollution. The service will commence on May 9th.

Mr. Sothorn Suwannarat, Phuket Provincial Governor, Mr. Rewat Areerob, Mayor of Phuket Provincial Administration Organization, Mr. Saroj Angkanapilas, Mayor of Phuket City Municipality, Mr. Leckchai Hwangtrakuldee, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand Phuket Office, and Mr. Thanet Tantaripiryakit, President of Phuket Tourism Business Association, expressed their congratulations during the press conference announcing the launch of the Smart Bus EV route by PKCD and the Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation. The service aims to serve both locals and tourists in the old town area of Phuket every day, running every 15 minutes from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, starting from the Luangpohw Road Parking Lot.

Currently, Phuket Smart Bus operates electric buses on the airport-Patong-Rawai route with four out of the total 14 buses. In the future, all buses will be converted to electric. Mr. Nipon Ekwannich, Advisory Chairman of Phuket City Development, stated that PKCD was established to carry out various city development projects focusing on creating a livable and environmentally friendly city, promoting the use of clean energy to reduce pollution, and enhancing the sustainable living and tourism. The Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation was established to carry out environmentally friendly projects. Therefore, it is deemed appropriate to collaborate in drafting a memorandum of understanding to drive the development of an environmentally friendly city (Green City) to ensure sustainable, efficient, and environmentally friendly development.

Mr. Pumikit Raktaengam, Chairman of the Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation, mentioned the support for the Phuket Smart Bus EV project in the old town area of Phuket. Recognizing issues such as traffic congestion and insufficient parking, the project aims to provide an alternative transportation option for tourists, as well as to encourage both tourists and locals to use public transportation, especially clean energy vehicles. The project will utilize electric buses to reduce air pollution, thereby helping alleviate the problem of carbon dioxide emissions caused by air pollution. Furthermore, it aims to promote and support collaboration and linkages between government agencies, private sectors, and relevant stakeholders.
